My name is Rainbow. I live in Gardena, CA and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love being around the older generation. They're wise and witful. I also became a caregiver because I took care of my grandparents and I just enjoyed being around the elderly to make their final days happy.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have an abundance of patience. To have empathy for your patients and an understanding with the family.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget would be Milly. She had an infectious smile and loved to laugh. We would go out to dinner and I forgot her coffee cups because the coffee cups at the restaurants were too heavy for her to hold. So we had the coffee cups from the restaurant and I'd asked the waitress to bring me over some napkins and some tape, so I can tape it around the mug so it could be not so hot. While I was doing that, Milly took the scotch tape from me and started putting it above her lip and she turns to me and she says, "How do you like my mustache?" Her and I had a lot of fun together and she will be deeply missed.
