Hello, my name is Rachelle. I live in the city of Azusa, CA and I have been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I have became a caregiver because my mother was sick. She had hepatitis C, and I watched her for over a year and a half until she passed. And then after that, I just felt like I could give so much more to so much people, to the elderly. And I've been working for this for a while. And I still want to become a caregiver the best as I can be and give them the best ADLs that they can have.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My best advice to a new caregiver is to be very patient, listen to the resident, and also use good body mechanics when you are working as a caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget would be Jody. I was her first caregiver. We became very close. I would go every morning, make her her breakfast, her coffee, her Raisin Bran. And I would do all her meals for her. And she was so excited about everything I would cook for her. She loved everything. And she also wanted to make a cooking book-- to publish a cooking book and put all my meals I prepared for her in them. And she's passed away but I would never, ever forget her. I was her first caregiver. And she always told me that she loved me with her southern accent. She's someone I will never forget.
