Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
Hi, my name is Rebecca Brunson. I've been a caregiver for 7 years and I'm now living in Antioch, California. I initially became a caregiver because my mom was in need of help. I left my job as a cashier to start caregiving, and it was the greatest blessing I’ve ever had.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
My life has changed tremendously since I became a caregiver, and my proudest moment was taking care of my daughter and my mom at the same time. Being there for my mom was an experience I'll never forget. She was in a nursing home, and it didn't work out well. I needed to see that she was happy, so I did the best that I could for her at home. I took her places here and there, and I was able to cook the foods that she loved. Caring for her was something that was dear to my heart and made me feel good.
What is one of the challenges you face as a caregiver?
I was caring for my mother when I was blessed with a baby girl. Caring for both of them at the same time was the most amazing and challenging experience of my life.
What are your strengths as a caregiver?
The steady flow of care that I give, and just being there every day. I follow my heart and do what I would do for my own. I have motherly instincts and I follow them.
