Hi. My name is Rebecca. I live in Arlington. I have been a caregiver for 13 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, when my grandfather and grandmother became sick, I didn't want them to go into a nursing home so I became their caregiver. I had to go and learn all the details that I needed to give them the proper care. After that, I saw how much I loved caring for elderly and people that were unable to take care of their self, so I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to love each and every one of your patients as if they were your own family member, love them as they were your own grandmother and grandfather, and treat them according to the way you would want someone to treat you if you were in their same position.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget is my first client that I ever had in a nursing home, about 13 years ago. She was sweet. She enjoyed telling me stories that happened when she was younger and I will never forget her. I thank her for that and her patience and her kindness when she was with me.
