Hi, my name is Rebecca. I live in Auburn, CA and I've been a caregiver for one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I wanted to take care of my grandpa. I also do want to become a nurse someday. I'm studying for that right now. I love helping people, especially elderly. I work as a caregiver right now at an SF facility and I love it. I love knowing I can help them and assist them with their daily living.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a caregiver would be to have a lot of patience, be very loving, nice, you have to be friendly. Look at these elderly people as your grandparents, people that are close to you. Treat them how you would treat your grandparents.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget will be Patty. We do get along so well. I love talking with her, sharing stories. Not only being her caregiver but also her friend. Someone she comes to whenever she needs help, whenever she wants to talk, whenever she wants to laugh. It's a very beautiful experience with that connection that you can have with someone.
