Hi, I am Rechanel. I live Palmdale, CA and I have been working as a caregiver for a year now.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was able to take good care of my family member. My grandmother was very sick back home, and I started to take good care of her, and I find it very fulfilling to be able to impart something to my grandmother, and to other elderly people who are in need.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, that they should put their heart in what they are doing, and any patient that they should be taking good care of, they should always treat that patient like a family member. And also that they have to stretch their patience because care and patience are part of the skills that you need. The other skills that you need, they are very important to becoming an effective and compassionate caregiver.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was a bedridden client who was a military officer before, and he was so kind and understanding to me as well. And we established a very good rapport and a relationship that I have been so attached to him because he treated me like his grandson.
