Hi. I'm Rechil. I live in Long Beach, CA.I've been a nurse assistant or caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I took care of my loved one, my mother-in-law and my grandfather-in-law, until they passed away. And from there, I found the passion of taking care of people. So I took a nurse assistant program and then, from there, I became a caregiver. I love taking care of people. It gives me a sense of purpose. It gives me a sense of belonging as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
If I would be giving advice to a new caregiver, it would be, be passionate, love what you're doing, and think that the person you're taking care of has family or loved ones also that are loving them or concerned for them. And also, think that the person you're taking care of is your loved one. Take care of them as how you want your family to be taken care of or how you want to be taken care of. Love and enjoy what you're doing.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I will not forget about was this older lady, and she's a very kind person. She has no family anymore and she's very positive in life despite her condition. She managed to have this positive outlook in life to live till her last breath and she encouraged me to continue life despite troubles or discouragement. Very kind-hearted woman.
