Hello, my name is Regina. I live in Columbus, GA. I've been a caregiver for over 15 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love taking care of the elderly and mentally ill patients. I started in high school while I was in the 11th grade and I've been doing this ever since for over 15 years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be always be compassionate with the patient. Always speak slowly with them. Always show them that you are there to help them and not make them feel afraid. Always show loving and caring and affection towards them. Treat them like you would want your family members to be treated, with respect, dignity.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my client that I had in Anchorage, Alaska. She was more than a client. She was a grandmother towards my kids. She showed them love. She showed them compassion. She was an RN and became very ill and I took care of her. I would never forget the day that I was leaving Anchorage, Alaska and how she cried and I cried. And then she finally moved from Anchorage, Alaska to New York. We kept in contact until the day she died. I will never forget her and she will always be a part of my family, whether she's here or not.
