Hello, my name is Renee. I live in Stanton, CA and I've been a caregiver for four plus years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a loved one in my family. She got very sick and I was the one to take care of her at the time. I realized to myself I had joy in helping others and that's the reason why.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be not to be nervous, It's okay to be nervous, take your time, learn the steps, know the patient, be there for the needs that they might have and just be kind, gentle and listen.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I'll never forget, his name was Joel, he was the most kindest man you'll ever meet. It was heading towards his birthday and he told me wanted something different, something he's never done before. His family wasn't around at that time, so I took it upon myself to actually look online, find things that would be fun for him to do and I finally found the perfect thing. I went up to him the next morning and told him happy birthday and that we were going to go out and have a great day, so as we were leaving he kept asking me "Where are we going? Where are we going?" I told him that it was a surprise and sure enough, when we hit the center, he saw the big air balloon and he was so happy. It made me happy to know that me and him can have that experience together. Going up in that hot air balloon, loved every minute of it.
