Hi, my name is Rica and I'm from Moreno Valley, CA and I have been a caregiver for about a year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had internship after I went to college. And the internship that I did my work at, they went out and they cared for patients. And I was in the office and putting in patients. And sometimes, I would go out and help. And it really influenced me and gave me the idea to go ahead and do this myself.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be always to ask questions because you never want to start doing something to a patient that is not okay with what you're doing, even if it's a simple as maybe moving something in the house or maybe even when you arrive there. Always ask questions, just to make yourself feel comfortable and the other patient feel comfortable.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one that I had to care for. She was very very nice, very caring. She always made sure that I had what I needed, even though I was there to help her. She was very loving, very caring. Not all patients are the same, but she was very nice to me. And she did help me, as far as herself, to help herself with her body.
