Hello, my name is Robert. I live in Los Angeles, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to care for people. I'm caring and kindhearted. I also became a carer because of my grandmother, she was caregiver for 50 years. She became a caregiver because she thought she would help people that needed help, and I also like to help people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to treat your clients with patience, treat them like a real family member, treat them with respect with everything that they need, treat them like how you would treat your grandmother and your grandparent and your family member, your mom or your dad. Treat them like your family because that's the way they should be treated.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is when I went back where I worked as a CNA. I went back to that location, where I first started working as a caregiver. All of the patients' faces lit up when they saw me. There was one patient, her name was Graciela, and when she saw me, she was like, "It's a miracle your back. I'm just happy to see you. Don't leave anymore because you were a very good nurse, and we need you, you were my bestfriend". There was another patient, her name was Harron, she smiled at me and I said "Hi", and that patient had dementia.
