Hi, this is Robert. I live in San Diego, CA and I've been a caregiver for more than four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I decided to become a caregiver to extend my working career. I've been involved in healthcare now for more than 20 years, and during that time I've met and helped a tremendous number of people. Realized that there are a significant number of people who are out there who need help.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to be compassionate, reliable, honest, dedicated, patient. All those things, I guess. Just caring for the individual. Willing to listen and accommodate whatever they need when possible. Be on time. Provide a consistent effort.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is someone I took care of for more than three years and I was able to keep her in the home. When I first went there it didn't appear that was going to be possible, but I am very proud that I was able to do so. And her son was very happy I was able to do that for her as well.
