My name is Robin. I live in Santee, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 plus years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy working with the elderly. And I always feel like there's something that I can learn from them. And I absolutely just love being around older people. I think they're great.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to always give your client their dignity, be courteous, and always listen. You know, I believe a client wants to share their story, whether it's 100 in a row or not, I believe that we're there for them. And so dignity is number one, and be kind always.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Karen. She is my most recent client. She was such a wonderful lady. She was a foster parent, and raised over 60 children. I was a foster child, so I admire that in her. So I admire her for so many things, the way she raised her family and the respect she had. That meant so deeply, very, very much.
