Hi, my name is Robin. I live in San Pedro, CA and I have been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I was going to LVN school and I was primarily in geriatric settings at clinics and I've grown a liking for this field. So I looked into the profession, and I really enjoyed it and I wanted to continue on this path.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to first, build a rapport with your client, always be patient, listen, be kind, and do your job, and always be respectful. And if there's any problem, always contact your agency.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I'll never forget is Margie. She was a wise woman. She had a mask collection and she'll teach you about all her masks. And when we had to depart sadly because she was going to assisted living she gave me an African mask and it was beautiful. And we'd go out to art shows and dinner. We'd go to all the old places she went with her husband who had recently passed six months ago. She was just a great companion and I loved her and we had a great time.
