Hi, my name is Ron. I live in Santa Clara, California and I have been a caregiver for four years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because actually I was both my parent's caregiver, especially my Dad. When my Mom was sick both me and my Dad cared for her but when my Mom passed away and then when my Dad actually got sick I was actually his full-time caregiver. I was actually at the time I was laid off so was able to give my Dad my full attention as a caregiver. So that's actually what inspired me to become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience and to be sure that you are really emotionally equipped to handle this job. This isn't a normal job and it takes quite a bit out of you emotionally. So I would say just to be sure that you are emotionally equipped to do the job and also just to have a lot of patience and a lot of love and a lot of care.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget, his name is Ken, he was almost my first client actually. I was actually with him for the past four years and he has a great sense of humor and he always kept me in stitches and he was just a joy to be around. He actually was born in Hollywood and grew up in the Hollywood area so he always had some interesting stories about growing up at that time in Hollywood and he was just a very interesting and just a very colorful gentleman and I will never forget him.
