Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Rosa, I have eight years of experience and I currently live in east Palo Alto, California. Caregiving has been a natural path for me. My grandmother and my mother are both nurses, and I pretty much was born to it. Growing up with two nurses in my family, nurturing came natural to me, so it's easy for me to feel as though helping someone is the number one priority in my life.
What experience has made you proud of your ability as a caregiver?
My first experience as a caregiver was taking care of my grandfather. He had heart disease as well as diabetes. Taking care of him allowed me to gain a passion for taking care of others, knowing that I could give someone the feeling of love, respect and empathy for their situation did a wonderful deed for me. It made me feel awesome.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The most memorable experience that I've had with a client is someone who had stage four breast cancer. It had spread through her body and she still was capable of being sweet and humble in her situation. She taught me a lot about having a passion for life itself. She was still able to smile regardless of her situation. I was able to sing with her, read the Bible to her, and it was just one of the most loving and kind experiences that I've had.
