Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
I am Merle. I live in Vallejo, California. I have worked as a caregiver for more than 15 years. I become a caregiver because before I worked in Alaska, but my daughter called me to come back in California. So I tried to look for jobs, and caregiving jobs were easy to find for me. I work as a caregiver, and I love this job very much.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The first person that comes to my mind, I call her Mickey, because that is her nickname - very easy to remember - and the problem with Mickey is Alzheimer's. Before, she didn't really like me and was very hard to please. But later on she love me, and I love her very much too!
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
Patience is very important because if you are not patient and you don't know how to communicate to the client, you will not work together.
What is your proudest moment as a caregiver?
The moment that made me become happy is when I see the client and they smile at me and say "Thank you." This makes me proud because they really appreciate what I am doing for them.
