Hi, my name is Rosalyn and I live in the city of Fontana,CA.I have 30 years of caregiver experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mother had a stroke early 90's and I have been taking care of her for about four, five years and I've been doing it ever since, off and on. I also had experience in working through an agency, which later folded. I did that for quite a few years as well.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice would be, for a new caregiver, is that you be patient, have patience, listen, make sure that you are very gentle, be respectful, and always, always work in a healthy and safe environment and make sure you leave with a positive attitude with your client. Engage in your client and make sure that your client knows that you are there to help them and take care of them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget or a client that I remember taking care of was Joan. She was a beautiful spirit. She was from England. We got along very well. She treated me as though I was a member of her family. Her children were very respectful and I just adored her personality. We'd laugh, we would even sing together, we would watch movies together, and she just made me feel so loving. Her spirit, it was just so beautiful, and we did things, you know? She allowed me to help her do physical therapy. There was a lot of energy within her. We did exercises together, we did puzzles together. So she connected well with me and I connected well with her, so she made me feel so comfortable in her home. And at that time I was a live-in for her, so, naturally, we got along very well. She loved the same things I loved. She adored animals just as well as I did. So she is a person I will never ever forget because her spirit just reminded me so much of my mother.
