Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Rose, and I am a caregiver and a CNA and I have been a CNA since 2001, and I have been working home care, hospital, and hospice. I live in Ridgemont, East Bay, California. What makes me interested in caregiving is I love working with people. I am compassionate, and I love helping the sick people. I love to see people feel good and comforted in the hour of need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The first person that comes into my mind is Elizabeth, and I worked with her for four years. And she passed on, and ever since, I always remember her and miss her. What I remember most about Elizabeth is when I started with her. I was given information that she might go very slow, and my heart-- I saw her and I loved her, and she loved me too. And I really wanted to see her live more and more and more, and we became very good friends.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
Most important advice I would give to a new caregiver is, when you come to a new client, listen. Take time to listen. Be a listener, and then you will be able to connect with the client.
