Hi, my name is Roseanne. I am from Fresno, CA. And I've been a caregiver for 11 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like to help people and it's very rewarding. I feel like I help a lot with my experience and just because I care. I see a lot of people that don't get the help that they deserve, and especially for the elderly. They should treat them with respect and give them all the attention that they possibly need.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be patient, to be compassionate, and to listen. We are here to serve the elderly, our clients, and the way that they want things done is the way that it should be, whether it's something small, like I want this sit here, sit at this time. I want this placed here for this reason. We have to realize that we're working for them, not us telling them what to do.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Lavrina. I worked for her for three plus years and there was always a time where she needed something done at a specific time and it wasn't getting done the way that she wanted by her previous caregiver. I had told her that, I am here for her, I am here to do what she needed me to do. She was very welcoming to me, because I was able to help her. And I love her and we became very close.
