Hi, my name is Roxann. I live in Costa Mesa,CA and I've had 10 years experience in caregiving.
How did you get into caregiving?
The reason that I became a caregiver is because I enjoy helping people and taking care of the elderly. I've always enjoyed talking with elderly people and just helping them as much as I can. Caregiving is just a job that makes you feel like you're doing something for others and makes me feel good.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to listen to the client and respond to their questions and their personality and kind of go with the flow and see what their personality is like and take it from there and have compassion towards what they're going through, just be as comfortable as you can and not too forceful with your personality. Just kind of go with the flow of their personality.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a man named Al who was 98-years-old. Every morning he woke up and was ready to go, have some fun. He wanted to go out to lunch or go play a little bit of golf, potting maybe dinner. He would bet on the horses and just was a really, awesome older man. He had a zest for life, still at that age. I was very impressed by his personality and the way he took care of himself. He was just very nice and he just really was still enjoying his life at age 98 and I was glad that I was able to help him with that.
