This is Ruby. I've been a caregiver for six years. I live in Carson, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I'm happy to take care of other people-- old people.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver-- probably to be a little patient, treat them like your family, care about them, make them happy, because sometimes they're irritable and sometimes they don't know you.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is my first client. Her name is Gloria. The first time, she was very hard to be with and then because she can't walk, she sit on the scooter. She's alone in her house. I cook, do laundry, clean her house, and everything until she became closer to me and became nice to me and we're happy together. She had a lot of stories and treated me like her daughter. I worked for her for two years. She was a very nice lady. She didn't want me to leave. And one time, I visited my family in the Philippines for a month because my son was getting married. She didn't want me to leave. She wanted to go with me to the Philippines, but it's hard for me to bring her because it's very hot in the Philippines. So I looked for a reliever to take care of her while I was gone. But when I came back the reliever already took my job.
