Hi, my name is Ruthie. I live in Columbus, GA and I have been a caregiver for about a year and a half.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I wanted to get into the healthcare field and ultimately become a nurse. And while I was going to school I wanted to experience the setting of taking care of someone and have the opportunity to see if it was a good fit for me.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be that they make sure before they start the job or before they go into this type of field that it's something that suits their personality, and that the qualities that they need in order to do this job successfully.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget will probably be this woman that I cared for in a nursing home. She was really tiny and really old and very picky with the CNA's that she would let handle her. And I never hurt her, because she really appreciated the time and the patient and the good quality that I put into my work. And it made me feel as though I was in the right place and I was doing something that was meaningful.
