Hi! My name is Sabrina. I live in Southgate and I have been a caregiver for three years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandpa was in need of a caregiver the time around when he was alive. So I would go to his house and help him with his needs, as in when he would use the restroom I would help him. When he would shower I would bath him and I'd take him places that he needs to go, pick up his mail and things like that.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be to be patient with the seniors they take. They're not really sure what they want to do, what they want to eat. Just give them time to think about what they want. Be really patient with them. Also be really nice and polite, whatever their needs accommodate.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is George, which he was my grandpa, my one and only client. And the reason why I would never forget him is because not only he was my grandpa, but he gave me a really good experience on caregiving. He was the one who made me really polite with people, he made me an outgoing, talking to other people because he was really outgoing. Also, he made me have a lot of patience because he was not fast, he was really slow. So my patience built up with him.
