Hi, my name is Sabriya. I'm from San Antonio, TX and I have five years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandfather. He's the one who inspired me to do this. In his last stages of life, I was the one who would tend to him and care for him and I thought to myself, "Well, he's not the only one that is going through this. There's multiple families in the world that can't be there for their families and what better way to do it than this?" It's me and I love that.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be just to get to know the patient or client. Once you figure that out, you're going to know what they want and what they need, and what you can and you can't do with them. So I guess building a rapport with them.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client will never forget was this young lady named Sarah. I was with her for a good amount of time and while with her, I've learned so much on life in a different way. She was very cheerful and always happy. Even when she was sick, you wouldn't be able to tell. She was always happy, always had a smile on her face, was a go-getter. Just somebody that I could see myself being when I reached that age.
