Hi, my name is Staso. I live in Modesto, CA. I have over six years of caregiver experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my uncle didn't have any family in Modesto, so I was available to care for him, and after that I have taken care of my mother that has liver function, and also my father, that had a stroke. So now, I'm working at a day program for adults with disabilities, that has all kinds of disabilities, helping them to achieve their fullest potential, which are budgeting money, personal hygiene, cooking, being out in the community.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be learning their patient's needs and wants, and working around that, and also being caring, and understanding to who they are, and also coming in with a positive attitude, and willing to help them at any time, and listening to them. That's how things work, and that's how you build a relationship with your patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is, her name is Angela. When I first observed her before I worked with her, she was always yelling at the staff, cussing at the staff, so I was quick to work with her, know her, and try to understand who she is, what she is.
