Hi, my name is Sally. I live in Ventura, CA and I have 12 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my grandma. Then she passed away. And then I was looking after my mother. And then I had a baby. And when she was four, my neighbor came and asked me if I knew anybody that does caregiving or light housekeeping. And I said yes, that I would do it. So back then, I started working for her. And I enjoy working with people, getting to know and helping them out. So I've been doing that now for 12 years.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, to have a lot of patience and be reliable and dependable. Because these people need us. If they have no other family, they really depend on us. So it's important to be dependable and on time. And try and help and do your best, what they like you to do for them, not what you want. So the main thing is to have patience and like what you're doing, which I really love it. And that's all I have to say.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget was maybe like nine years ago. Her name was also Sally. She was a very sweet lady. She really enjoyed going out. So I would take her out to shop or just to get out of the house. And she was always grateful and thankful for me being there with her as a companion and taking her out. And she always said that she liked having me around because I was a really cheerful person. I was never in a bad mood. So that made my day and that's the way I am. So that's one experience that I really enjoyed working for and will remember.
