Hi, my name is Salvacion. I live in Simi Valley, CA and I've been a caregiver for almost one year.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because, first, my husband a had an attack long time ago and he stayed in a nursing home for almost six years. So I assisted the nursing aid to help my husband in changing the gown, changing the diaper, and everything. And second, this inspired me to work as a caregiver, when I worked in the border care for almost one year. It is a dedicated job to work with the elder people who needs attention and love from others.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, "embrace". You must be dedicated to your job. Love the elder people. Understand their situation. Be there when they need us. Be compassionate. Be organized, on time, you must anticipate any and all situation that might happen.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is someone who I've been working for almost six months. Her name is Marie. She is a very loving resident at my job. The one thing that I always remember about her is whenever we have conversations and then she would tell me, "Thank you for taking care of me. If not for you, I don't know who will be taking care of us." These kinds of words will always remind me of that time. Also when she told me, "Someday because of your help to us, God will give you more blessings."
