Hi, my name is Sam. I live in Mountain Ranch, CA and I have 22 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mom being sick and having cancer. That's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, not to be afraid to ask questions about the person you are caring for. Make sure that the person you are going to care for would feel comfortable and be willing to discuss any and all information with the family about how they would like the particular loved one to be taken care of.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a gentleman who had AIDS on the special unit that I was on. He was heartbroken and devasted that he wouldn't be there to watch his child grow or be there to be with his wife and to provide for her. He was tormented with the entire idea of not being able to protect them or to give the things that a father or a husband would do. Even though it was completely not his fault. It was a complete accident how he got this disease but it was very-- one of my hardest clients and persons I've ever worked with because of how much he suffered other than having the disease. He suffered more about not being able to be the father and husband that he wanted to be.
