Hi, my name is Sandra. I live in Farmington, CA and I've been a caregiver for two years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my grandmother was ill. I had to take care of her. I helped her bathe her, feed her, medication. Anything that she needed, I was there to help. I'm also a medical assistant and I have experience from Trinity Urgent Care in Stockton and that's what inspired me to become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, you have to be patient and motivating. You have to like helping others.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Phyllis. The reason why I will never forget her is because Phyllis would never want to get out of bed and I would always bathe her in bed and brush her hair. And when I would get her out of bed onto her wheelchair, that's when I would perfume her. She really liked that. The other thing I will never forget about her is that I remember that Phyllis never liked to do her physical therapy and many activities. She would always want to stay in bed and I would try to motivate her. And I would get her out of bed, like I said, onto the wheelchair and we would do the physical therapy together. That's what I will never forget about that client.
