Hi. My name is Sandra. I live in San Jose, CA and I have been a caregiver for 5 and a half years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I feel like it is my calling. I care for people from my heart and I love to see people thrive. I care for people regardless of their age, race, disability, or whatever their circumstances may be. I am a genuine caregiver and helper of mankind.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, just remember everyone is an individual and you deal with people accordingly to what is best for that individual and their situation. Number one, you care and deal with them from your heart.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I'll never forget is Kathy. Kathy is a client that was using a walker and I also would take her around in her wheelchair to run errands, doctors appointments, and just socializing with her as she permitted. When she wanted to raise a conversation and we would discuss things that she likes. And we laughed and it was very enjoyable for her and also myself. When I finished with this client Kathy, she said that I was the best caregiver. She said that she couldn't ask for any better. I was perfect. She gave me a kiss and a hug and she just had a big heart. Just very heartwarming. It really touched my heart. And I enjoyed helping her as I do enjoy helping people on a day-to-day basis.
