Hi, my name is Sara. I live in San Bernardino, CA and I've been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to take care of people. I love to give happiness where there is no hope. I started with the care of a person that I loved very much. That's one of the greatest gifts to me, is to be able to help somebody.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be, patience, to have a lot of love and a lot of understanding, and to put herself in the client's shoes so she could understand how to treat a client.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Miss Elaine. She was a client who was a very angry person, from the moment she got up until the moment that she went to bed. And I would sit there and I would talk to her and show her different ways on how to do things, and how to appreciate life by appreciating her, and by appreciating the job I was doing no matter what she would say or do. And at the end of the day, she was a totally different person. She was more a friend than a client.
