Hi, my name is Sarah. I live in Long Beach, CA, and I have 5 years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my mom's situation. And also, I am 56 years old, and at this point of my life, I am ready for a change. I have worked over 20 years in the office, and now, I really want to do something different, and that's what I choose to do for the remaining of my time as a working person. I would like to be a caregiver, and help out, and learn, and get certified. That's what I want to do.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be compassionate, to have patience, to listen, and to help out to give some warmth, to comfort these elderly people because they're going through some diseases, or they're at the end of their life, or whatever the situation may be. These people need compassion, patience, and a good, warm-hearted person to help, and make their day bright, and have a good day for whatever the time they have.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
My mom was my best experience helping the elderly. She had Alzheimer's, so this was a huge problem. This was something major in the family, and it affected all of us. It affected the whole entire family.
