Hi, my name is Sarai. I live in Antioch, CA and I have eight years of caregiver experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of a loved one, I watched three people die in hospice and it just didn't touch me the right way and I love taking care of disabled people and people who need help and can't do it for themselves.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to learn all you can about your client, their symptoms, what they're going through and if you don't know, ask questions and have patience.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is named Stacy. I fell in love with Stacy about two, three visits after meeting her, she had a mental disorder and she let me know right off that she had a mental disorder and that she would get aggravated because other caregivers were impatient with her because they didn't understand what she was going through so she told me before I took this job, she wanted me to go to classes with her where they taught me about her mental disorder. I looked up on websites to learn about this disorder but I really love the fact that she educated me instead of belittling me because I didn't know and I didn't understand what she was going through and because of that I will forever be grateful because that is a tool I will carry with me in this profession.
