Hi, my name is Selma. I live in Altadena, CA. I have 19 years experience as a CNA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I just enjoy taking care of seniors and people who are in the health condition where they need someone to assist them and help them. That's why I became a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be sure that this is exactly what you want to do and that you really actually care about the elderly or anyone who's in need of someone to help or assist them, because it's very important that they will be able to feel comfortable and safe around you and secure, and knowing that you really do care and this is what you really want to do. Otherwise, try to seek out what you really want to do with your life. But in order to be a good caregiver, you have to enjoy and have a passion for taking care of people.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is one lady who I've taken care of. I took care of her for several months, maybe seven months out of the year. It was a five day a week job. I enjoyed taking her to the stores, I enjoyed watching her shop and helping her shop and going back to the house, and cooking and preparing food. And I enjoyed watching her do exercises, and I would exercise with her.
