Hi, my name is Seretta and I live in Trevose, PA and I have 10 years experience as a caregiver.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I enjoy helping people that are in need. My mother is a nurse and due to her loving care and her kindness, I learned from her that helping others is always a good thing for your spirit, soul, and body. It makes you feel better when you help others. I'm also a recreational therapist by trade and I enjoy working with people who are disabled or have any type of disability. Alzheimer's, dementia, mental health patients and those alike.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be patient, kind and have a loving spirit. Without those, you cannot be a progressive caregiver. You have to have love in your heart to serve others.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a lady, she is 89 years old and she had the early stage of Alzheimer's. She was so kind and so giving, and so sweet, she was such a pleasure to work with her and to assist her with her medication reminder, the doctor appointments and helping around her house. To this day, I continue to mail her card on Christmas, Mother's Day, on her birthday and any other special holiday. And we talk to one another once in a while just to see how she is doing. She is such a blessing.
