How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I had a grandmother that raised me and became ill, and I just wanted to care for her. And after she passed away, I stayed in the field because there was something that I felt a strong desire for and it made me feel the need to help people that needed my help.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for future caregivers would be to remember that the client deserves respect and to be treated fairly and kind as you would want to be treated yourself. Always take in consideration a client culture and their family ethical values. And always remember as a caregiver; patience and respect will get you a long way.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget would be a 60-year-old male that I had for approximately 3 years. He suffered from Alzheimer's and dementia and a severe mental retardation. The reason I would never forget this client is because he taught me that in life, no matter what a person's condition is, they're always able to have life
