Hi, my name is Shalisa. I live in San Diego, CA and I've been a caregiver for 8 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because at first I was caring for my grandmother, who suffered from dementia, and also, I just have a knack for it. I enjoy doing it, so that's how I got into caregiving and I've been doing it for eight years. I really enjoy it.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice for a new caregiver would be is to make sure that you're patient with them, to be as friendly as you can be, to follow whatever guidelines that you're given, to ensure that they have the best care, and to just be very attentive to all of their needs.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Ms. Maggie. We used to enjoy watching TV together, and she was a paraplegic, and she also suffered from dementia, but whenever she'd come back into her right mind, she loved talking. So, we'd always chat, and we'd always laugh together, and I enjoyed cooking for her, and taking care of her, and she loved when we read the Bible and sang songs together.
