My name is Shanee. I've been a caregiver for 10 years, also a TNA for three years. I live in Oakland, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I like helping those who can't help theirselves, and I also like making a difference on people who are feeling down or feeling like that there will never be a happy time again. I just like being there for them any way possible that I can to make them feel happy, comfortable, and better about themselves.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be make sure you're passionate and driven about what you're doing. Also, be honest, loving, and supportive to those who may not have family to be there for them. You have to be their friend, companion, and also help them on what they need.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I will never forget is Gary. Gary was the most honest, straight-forward, upfront, and loving person that you could ever take care of. The most memorable thing that he has done for me was him and his wife made me a birthday cake for my birthday - that I totally forgot was approaching - and they made me feel so special by doing it and very appreciative. And I cherish that moment, that day, til this day forth.
