Hello. My name is Shanee. I stay in El Sobrante, CA. My experience is 6 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my auntie was sick with cancer for over three years so I took over her and helped her with her health. So after she passed away I continued to be a caregiver. I work in common elder homes. I work in homes. I work in all different locations.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to have patience, make sure you're ready for what position you have coming your way. You will always experiment different attitudes, different moods. Just stay strong, stay focused, make sure you do your medication reminders. Make sure you love your client just like you have a family member at home you love.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, Louis. Such a beautiful, sweet, kind hearted lady. I wouldn't mind doing anything for you. Very funny. She loves cats, loves going on outings, loves orange [inaudible], loves eating. I will never ever forget her. She always put a smile on my face. I can have bad days and she would just brighten my day up. You could bring a cat around her. Always had a cat with me and she would love it. We would just be outside walking the cat, you know? Things like that. My most warming thing is that she was so close to me as a family member. I would take her around my family and I'd go around with some of her family that she had left. I will never ever forget that situation. Sometimes it's hard to move on. I never want to leave her behind but things happen. I appreciate the time that I did have with her.
