Hi. My name is Shasta. I'm from Oakland, CA and I've been a caregiver for 4 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love to help people. I have a big heart, especially the young ones.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be make sure that the patient is always clean, comfortable, fed. Make sure they take their medication on time, but my number one thing is to make sure they're clean and flip them over if they're not mobile so they won't get a bad sore.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
The client I would never forget is Ms. Ollie. I remember one day, she had wanted to get out of her bed and her son's brought her this lazy boy chair that was in her room, so we would get her from the bed with the list to her lazy boy chair. So one day I put her in her lazy boy chair and I went to go prepare her lunch, and when I came back she was pretty far down, so I went to help her and scoot her up. And when I scoot her up, I had grabbed her by her waist and I asked if she was ready, and she was all like, "Yeah." And then when I scoot her up, she just goes like, "Oh you're strong." So I would never forget that with Ms. Ollie.
