Hi, my name is Shauntel. I live in Sacramento, CA and I've been a caregiver for 10 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love working with elderly people. I did volunteering for nursing home, and since then I've been taking care of disabled children and adults.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be you have to be patient. You have to be caring. And you have to be understanding. One thing, by working for elderly or disabled is, the main thing, you just being patient and understanding.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client that I would never forget is a male client that was in his first stage of Alzheimer's, and it took me a while to understand him, his needs, and how he forget things. So that is a client that I would never forget because when you're dealing with elderly, you'd have some clients that will be in a state of dementia or Alzheimer's, and that really helped me to realize a lot on how to be patient and caring and understanding.
