Hi, my name is Shawna, I live Visalia, CA and I have 15 years plus experience in the elderly care.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because my mom needed someone that would stay and be able to care for her. My sister was a nurse, so I became a CNA. I actually was a cook, and I went and ventured into giving one on one care to be a caregiver and then became a CNA.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to learn your resident, learn your loved one, and see what they like best. And try to always accomplish them their goals and what they do and how they live with their daily livings.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget, every morning, she would ask for me. Especially on her shower days, she would ask for me. If I was working that day, she would prefer me to give her a shower and assist her to get her up in the morning for breakfast.
