Hello. My name is Sherita. I am currently located in San Diego, CA and I've been an CNA and caregiver for over 4 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver when my grandmother felt ill and was not able to take care of herself. I enjoyed it. I learned a lot from taking care of my grandmother and I just enjoyed taking care of people. So that's what inspired me to become a caregiver.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to have patience. You are working with someone, someone else's life is in your hands and you have to have patience, and you have to have empathy towards the person that you are giving care to. Learn to listen to them and notice any signs of any trouble, and just pay attention to detail.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I would never forget was Ms. J. She was a fashion designer. She had been all around the world, and she had the most funny stories ever, and she just kept both of us entertained. She kept us laughing. She always had a smile on her face no matter what condition her health was in, and I would just never forget her. I would never forget how she dressed, the stories she told, the hospitality she gives. She was just a wonderful person and I really miss her.
