Can you tell me a little about yourself and how you got into caregiving?
My name is Sherlee. I live in Concord, California and I've been a caregiver for more than five years now
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
I work with this elderly lady who is 90 with dementia, for more than two years. I feel like even if she got dementia, she also care about me how I care about her. The family, they were all attached to me also.
What piece of advice would you give to a new caregiver?
What makes you a great caregiver?
I've learned to be patient in taking care with people with dementia. Patience because you have to understand that they have dementia. They don't know what's going on. You have also to learn how to divert their attention, how to redirect them with what they want to do, which is not possible.
People tell me that I'm a good caregiver because I'm reliable, dependable. I do my job with pride, passion, and love, taking care of them as my own family.
