Hi, my name is Sheron and I have been a caregiver for six years. I live in Burbank, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I am very passionate about helping other people. I took care of my grandmother before she passed, she had a terminal cancer, she was also a nurse and so was my mother.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver is to make sure that you are always patient with the person that you are attending to. Also make sure you hear the patient out, make sure that you are confident about what you are doing and make sure that you are providing the best care for the patient.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I'll never forget was a doctor. She was 89 years old and she didn't have any family. She told me that I was the closest to her because I helped take care of her. She lived in a nursing facility. Her shoes had holes in them and I knew she didn't have any family, so I went out and I bought her a pair of shoes and she was so forever grateful. I became close to that patient. She recently passed away and I sang at her funeral. It was an amazing experience and I was just so happy that I was able to be a blessing to her, not only while she was alive but when she passed away because I was able to sing at her funeral.
