Hi, my name is Sherrie. And I live in Los Angles, CA. And I've been a caregiver for five years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because of my uncle, who lived in a home with us for several years, who had gotten sick. And I just started to take care of him because I love taking care of the elderly. And I also took care of my auntie for maybe about six months.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be have patience with the client because some of them really need your help. If you don't have patience, you're not going to be able to do the job.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Minnie. She's so funny. She tells the funniest jokes. We went to the doctor's office, and we're sitting there. And the nurse called, "Minnie," and she was just sitting there. And the nurse came up, "Are you Minnie?" She said, "No." The nurse said, "Yes, you are." And she said, "Oh, I am." And I thought that was so funny.
