Hi, my name is Shonda and I live in Bainbridge, GA and I have been a caregiver for 20 years.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because when I was a small girl, I watched my mom go to work, and my mom always loved her job and she always had a smile on her face caring for the elderly. And she would come home and share stories with us, and if it was someone that died or something, it touched her heart.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to let them feel comfortable and to know that I'm here to help them and that they can trust me. And I'm here to help them heal and to grow better and listen to them and feel that they don't have to rush anything. And that they can trust me, that we're there as a team to help them get their health back on the right track.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a client that I work with, and every weekend when I go to work, he knows that I've been off and he always asks me how am I doing. And he feels so confident, I'm always able to put a smile on his face. At breakfast time or something, I go in and warm his oatmeal, to make sure his oatmeal is fixed right.
