Hi, my name is Shonnae. I live in Fort Worth, TX and I have three years of experience.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver because I love taking care of others. I love to see them happy. I love them to know that there are others out there who are willing to help. I became a caregiver because honestly, I'm just an outgoing person. I'm very kindhearted and I love to help. I love being in the medical field and I just love seeing other smile and being taken care of kindly, professionally.
What advice would you provide to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to be polite, open-minded, to listen, to make them laugh, talk more, point out things that they like. If they want to talk about a family member or a child that they remember or a childhood memory that they would like to talk about, just converse. Make sure that they're comfortable and you're comfortable at the same. And again just make sure that the person is happy and you're happy and just be yourself.
Who is one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is a wonderful human being that every time I walk through that door they come and greet me and thank me every day for being there and just make laughable moments. And he was just very, very kindhearted and sweet. He had Alzheimer's though. Every day would be different, every day would be fun, every day would be exciting just to get there to know that he knows when I'm there. He was happy that I was there and it just touched my heart for every time when I go to that patient's home he was happy to see me and I was happy to see him as well.
