Hi, I'm Sierra. I've been a caregiver for 16 years. I live in Santa Monica, CA.
How did you get into caregiving?
I became a caregiver in high school at age 16, working in nursing homes and I fell in love with being of service and living a life with meaning and purpose.
What advice would you give to a new caregiver?
My advice to a new caregiver would be to make sure you find a senior or several seniors that you enjoy spending time with, and know that there are many seniors in need and you don't have to settle for the wrong client. w
Who was one of your most memorable clients?
A client I will never forget is Sylvia. I met her when she was 80-years-old. She had polio all of her adult life and has lived in a wheelchair from the age 24 to 80. And I loved how Sylvia always wanted to walk again, be independent and be as positive as possible. Sylvia taught me, even with disabilities, we're still capable. And as a caregiver, my role was to help her be as capable as possible, not to do things for her.
